Uganda Cranes forward Steven Mukwala’s Simba secured a spot in the second round of the CAF Champions League preliminary round edging out Gaborone United of Botswana.
Simba kicked off the first leg with a narrow 1-0 away victory, thanks to a goal from Elie Mpanzu, giving them the edge heading into the second leg.
In the return leg in Tanzania, Simba took the lead in the 43rd minute when Jean Charles Ahoua converted a penalty.
However, the visitors leveled the score in the 56th minute through Lebogang Ditsele, also from the penalty spot.
The match ended 1-1, but with the aggregate score at 2-1, Simba advanced to the next stage, keeping their hopes alive in Africa’s premier club competition.
Looking ahead, Simba will face Nsingizini Hotspurs from Eswatini in the second round, with the first leg scheduled away on October 17.
The Reds of Msimbazi will be aiming to maintain their winning momentum as they chase further progress in the tournament.
