Wales head coach Craig Bellamy believes it’s “a matter of time” until England break their major tournament drought, offering high praise for Thomas Tuchel’s side ahead of Thursday’s friendly at Wembley.
Despite the significant ranking gap (England are 4th, Wales are 30th) and a crucial World Cup qualifier against Belgium looming on Monday, Bellamy insists he doesn’t “believe in friendlies” and that Wales are aiming to win.
Bellamy, who succeeded Rob Page after England eliminated Wales at the 2022 World Cup, was complimentary about the two-time European Championship runners-up: “I just see it as a top nation… I believe it’s only a matter of time [until they win a tournament].”
The Wales boss emphasised that the rivalry is not his focus, stating, “Our biggest rivals are ourselves… That’s what I’m more concerned on than a rivalry.”
He also addressed the pursuit of Tottenham winger Mikey Moore, who is eligible for Wales through a grandparent, confirming talks had taken place but expressing a desire to conduct recruitment work “behind the scenes” away from the public eye.
