FIFA President Infantino Calls for Peace Amid Gaza Conflict

The FIFA Council gathered at the Home of FIFA in Zurich on Thursday, with global football governance and unity at the heart of discussions.

Opening the meeting, FIFA President Gianni Infantino issued a strong call for peace in light of ongoing conflicts, with particular reference to the situation in Gaza.

“At FIFA, we are committed to using the power of football to bring people together in a divided world.”

“Our thoughts are with those who are suffering in the many conflicts that exist around the world today, and the most important message that football can convey right now is one of peace and unity,” Infantino said.

He acknowledged that while football cannot resolve geopolitical crises, FIFA must remain committed to its global mission

“FIFA cannot solve geopolitical problems, but it can and must promote football around the world by harnessing its unifying, educational, cultural and humanitarian values.”

Infantino’s remarks came against a backdrop of increasing global tensions, underlining football’s role as a unifying force in times of division.

The FIFA Council also reviewed key issues related to football governance, stakeholder relations, and the appointment of new Standing Committees for 2025–2029.

These committees are expected to bring greater involvement from Member Associations and confederations, increased female representation, and specialized technical expertise to strengthen FIFA’s decision-making processes.

By putting peace at the forefront of his message, Infantino reaffirmed FIFA’s commitment to using the world’s most popular sport as a platform for solidarity, dialogue and unity.
