The World Athletics Level One physical training program has officially opened at Kyambogo University, bringing together 22 Ugandan coaches for a week-long upgrade in technical skills.
The seven-day course, which runs until October 7, is designed to equip local coaches with modern techniques and advanced knowledge to boost the performance of Ugandan athletes on both local and international stages.
At the launch, senior coach Benjamin Njia welcomed the initiative, stressing that empowering coaches with new methods is essential if Uganda’s athletes are to remain competitive throughout the year.
Uganda Olympic Committee president Donald Rukare highlighted the wide scope of the program, noting that it covers both track and field disciplines. He said this depth of training will give the country an added competitive edge in global competitions.
Uganda Athletics Federation General Secretary Beatrice Ayikoru also underlined the country’s readiness to stage continental events.
She pointed out that Uganda now has both the facilities and the technical expertise to host major competitions, including the Africa Athletics Championships.
The course will conclude on October 7, when the participating coaches will graduate with new insights and skills to help shape the next generation of Ugandan athletics.
