The Federation of Uganda Football Associations has called for an emergency meeting tonight to address growing tensions with Uganda Premier League champions Vipers Sports Club over the new league reforms.

FUFA announced that the Emergency Committee will convene today, October 6, 2025, at 8 pm.

The meeting comes amid rising disputes about the federation’s new three-phase league structure and other changes introduced for the 2025/26 season.

While most of the 16 clubs accepted the reforms, Vipers SC, led by club president Dr. Lawrence Mulindwa, rejected them, citing lack of consultation, concerns over the new points reset system, and unresolved issues with last season’s prize money.

Mulindwa warned that the club could withdraw from Ugandan football, accusing FUFA of undermining sporting integrity and exposing the league to potential match manipulation.

The standoff deepened on Saturday when Vipers, as earlier communicated, failed to honour their fixture against Kitara at Namboole, a match that had been widely advertised as part of a double-header also featuring SC Villa against KCCA.

The supposed double header also drew sparse attendance, highlighting the growing public discontent with the new format.

Notably, shadow Sports Minister Geofrey Kayemba Ssolo urged FUFA, club owners, and key stakeholders to hold immediate talks to prevent further division within Ugandan football.

According to Article 41 of the FUFA Statute, the Emergency Committee handles matters requiring immediate settlement between Executive Committee meetings.

It consists of the FUFA president, three vice presidents, and one appointed member of the Executive Committee.

Decisions from the committee take immediate legal effect but must later be ratified by the Executive Committee.

It remains unclear whether FUFA president Eng. Moses Magogo will attend tonight’s meeting, as he is currently in Kinshasa for the 47th CAF Ordinary General Assembly chaired by CAF president Dr. Patrice Motsepe.

The Emergency Committee last met in 2021 when it decided to cancel the Uganda Premier League season due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Tonight, it reconvenes under intense scrutiny, with the future of the 2025/26 season hanging in balance.
