Arsenal Football Club has commenced internal discussions regarding a major expansion of the Emirates Stadium, with the club exploring the possibility of playing home matches at Wembley Stadium if construction work goes ahead.
The talks are still at an early stage, and no firm plan has been decided. However, the main objective of the discussions is the possibility of changing the current seating configuration to add thousands of seats.
This move would be a clear effort by the Gunners to keep pace with the capacities of the country’s largest football grounds.
The current capacity of Emirates Stadium is 60,704, making it the fifth-largest stadium among English football clubs. The ground trails Manchester United’s Old Trafford (74,879), Tottenham Hotspur Stadium (62,850), West Ham’s London Stadium (62,500), and Liverpool’s Anfield (61,276).
The push for a capacity boost comes as the club approaches a significant milestone, with next year marking 20 years since the team moved from their historic Highbury ground to the Emirates.
