Newcastle United has appointed Ross Wilson, formerly Nottingham Forest’s Chief Football Officer, as the club’s new sporting director.
Wilson replaces Paul Mitchell, who departed St James’ Park after less than 12 months.
The Scot brings a strong track record, having previously served as sporting director at Rangers and played a key role in Forest’s recent success.
At Nottingham Forest, Wilson’s tenure saw the club transition from relegation candidates to European contenders for the first time in 30 years.
He oversaw shrewd transfer business, including the £45m+ sale of Brennan Johnson and the successful recruitment of players like Nikola Milenkovic.
Newcastle was keen to recruit the right figure to help plot the club’s medium to long-term strategy, and Wilson’s existing good relationship with manager Eddie Howe was a key factor.
Wilson stated: “I’ve been in regular contact with Eddie Howe and the trust, cohesion and alignment we’re building already feels strong… We believe that being united as a team will be so important as we continue to move the club forward together.”
