Weekly  Roundup of Ugandans Footballers Playing Outside Uganda : Khalid Aucho’s Yanga SC Top Of The Tanzanian Premier League

Over the weekend Ugandan footballers  in the  diaspora were in action for their respective clubs, here is how their clubs performed.

Diaz Departs Liverpool for Bayern

Timothy Awany continues to be a regular, evident as he played the whole 90 minutes for his side SC Ashdod, held to a 1-1 draw with Hapoel Jerusalem in Israel’s top-flight league. Awany played a pivotal role as a center back and was rated 7.5 after the game. Ashdod is struggling and is currently third from the bottom in a league of 14.

Bwomono, a sensational right back
Elvis Bwomono, who joined St. Mirren in January, is a regular for his club. On Saturday, he played 83 minutes as St. Mirren lost 1-0 to Livingston in the Scottish Premiership. St. Mirren is currently 5th in a league of 12 clubs after matchday 26.

The big Bev
In the Scottish Premier League, Bevis Mugabi played full time for his club Motherwell as they lost 2-0 to Hearts. Mugabi played in Center Defence in a 3-4-1-2 formation. Motherwell is currently 9th in a league of 12 clubs.

Salim at the bay
In the South African PSL, Ugandan goalkeeper Salim Jamal played for Richards Bay FC in a game against Sekhukhune. Unfortunately, Richards Bay lost 3-1, leaving them second from the bottom in a league of 16 clubs.

Daktari Aucho
Khalid Aucho started for Yanga as they won 3-0 against Kinondoni in the Tanzania Premier Division on Saturday. Gift Fred, another Ugandan at Yanga who has been a regular, was not in the squad. Yanga is currently top of the table having lost only one game in 16 played.

A goal on debut
Kezironi Kizito scored on his debut for Kanshashi in the Zambian Super League as they lost 2-1 to Prison Leopards on Saturday. Kezironi joined Kanshashi in the January window, having previously played for Zesco in the same country.

A brace for Yafesi
In Rwanda, top-flight side Sunrise, coached by Ugandan Jackson Mayanja, lost 4-2 to Mukula Victory Sports. The two goals of Sunrise were scored by Ugandan Yafesi Mubiru, who keeps on scoring goals consistently.

Clean sheets are his business
Three Ugandans were involved in a game between Mekelakeya and Shashemene Kanema in the Ethiopian Premier League on Saturday. Alionzi Nafian managed to keep a clean sheet for Mekelakeya as they defeated Shashemene Kanema 1-0. This was the last game for both sides in the first round of the league, with Mekelakeya finishing at the top and newcomers Shashemene 15th in a league of 16 clubs.

Musioge keeps finding goals
On Sunday, Charles Musiige scored the only goal for Dire Dawa as they picked up maximum points against Wolkite Ketema. Musiige’s goal came in the 30th minute, scoring with a chest from a cross from the right flank of the pitch. This was the last game of the first round, which sees Dire finish 10th in a league of 16 clubs.

North Macedonia top flight
In the North Macedonia top flight, three Ugandans were in action:

Center back Halid Lwalilwa played full time for his side Bregalnica as they won 2-1 against Tikves.
Midfielder Shafik Kagimu played full time for his side Rabotnicki in a goalless draw with Struga.
Rogers Mato made his debut for Brera Strumica, coming in the 84th minute. His team won 1-0 against Sileks.

In other sport
Netball
In the English netball super league, which tipped off on Saturday, three Ugandans were involved as Loughborough Lightning played against Surrey Storm. Mary Nuba’s Loughborough won 63-50 against Surrey Storm, which is home to Haniisha Mohameed and Peace Proscovia. Mary Nuba scored 51 points, while Haniisha played as a GK for Surrey Storm, and Peace was on the bench.
