Jinja Sports Club Marks World Squash Day with Vibrant Community Celebration

Jinja Sports Club was a hive of activity on Saturday as it joined the global squash community to celebrate this year’s World Squash Day, a colorful event dedicated to promoting the sport’s growth and inclusiveness worldwide.

Held under the theme “Bring a Friend on Court,” the celebration aimed to introduce new players to squash while encouraging community participation. The club’s courts were buzzing from morning to evening, filled with friendly matches, training sessions, and live demonstrations led by experienced coaches.

The initiative drew a mix of seasoned players and newcomers eager to pick up a racket for the first time. Organizers said the event provided an excellent space for mentorship and expanding interest in the sport across Uganda.

“World Squash Day is about opening doors to new players,” said Sharifah Nantambi, one of the event’s coordinators. “We want to make squash more accessible, especially to young people and women who’ve not had the chance to play before.”

Throughout the day, participants learned about techniques, fitness routines, and fair play, with several new players officially welcomed into the squash community. The event also shone a light on squash’s reputation as a fast-paced, mentally engaging, and health-boosting sport.

The celebration wrapped up with a series of exhibition matches that showcased the game’s tactical brilliance and teamwork, leaving many inspired to stay involved.

As Uganda continues to embrace such grassroots initiatives, World Squash Day events like this are expected to play a vital role in nurturing local talent and building a stronger squash culture across the country.
