Thousands of runners packed the NEC Grounds in Bugolobi on Sunday morning for the 2025 Corporate Run, a lively event held under the theme “Run for Expectant Mothers.”
The annual charity run attracted both Ugandans and foreigners, all uniting for a common cause — to support maternal health across the country.
The event was officially flagged off by Hon. Brig. Gen. Charity Bainababo, the Director of Women Affairs at the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), who also led the runners as the chief guest.
Under bright skies and loud cheers, participants filled the streets, running to raise awareness about pregnancy-related complications and to raise funds for three health centres in western Uganda.
Speaking after the run, Hon. Brig. Gen. Bainababo praised the huge turnout, describing it as a show of compassion and solidarity.
“This means a lot to mothers because I am one of them. It’s a noble cause for us to get up on a Sunday morning and come out to support expectant mothers,” she said.
She also used the platform to remind mothers about the importance of regular antenatal visits. “I urge all expectant mothers to visit health centres for medical checkups. That way, we can ensure that no mother is lost due to preventable complications,” she added.
Touching on broader issues, Brig. Gen. Bainababo reassured Ugandans of their safety amid growing political uncertainty, emphasizing the UPDF’s role in safeguarding peace.
“No mother should live in fear. The UPDF is fully in charge of the country’s security, and we are here to protect every Ugandan,” she said.
