Nangonzi Judith Parvin kicked off Uganda’s day with an impressive five-set victory over host nation Tunisia’s Abaasi Elee, setting the tone for her teammates.

Young talent Mirembe Judith, a Primary Seven pupil at Mbogo Junior School, showed glimpses of promise against Angola’s Albino Isabel. Despite losing the first three sets 11-5, 11-8, 11-3, Mirembe fought back to take the fourth 11-9 before Isabel clinched the fifth 11-4, leaving Uganda trailing 4-1.

Jemimah Nakawala, a Senior Three student at Kibuli SS, demonstrated remarkable grit against Madagascar’s Prevot Edena. Nakawala took the first two sets 11-9, 11-8 but dropped the next three 8-11, 8-11, 6-11. Showing nerves of steel, she bounced back to claim the final two sets 11-6 and 12-10, securing a tense 4-3 win for Uganda.

On the men’s side, Ssenyonga Jonathan powered through Sudan’s Mahrous Amgad in straight sets, 11-4, 11-7, 11-6, 11-9, delivering a dominant performance that highlighted Uganda’s growing strength in the sport.

Uganda’s table tennis squad now looks poised to continue their strong run, building momentum as the championship progresses.
