The Uganda national boxing team, the Bombers, have set off for Nairobi ahead of the 2025 Africa Zone 3 Boxing Championship, scheduled to run from October 16 to 25 at the Ulzi Indo Arena.
Fifteen boxers were officially flagged off at Lugogo’s Hockey Stadium after wrapping up their final preparations.
The team heads to Kenya with renewed confidence and a fresh sense of leadership, as Murungi Kassim steps in as team captain, replacing Matovu Ukasha.
Murungi, who succeeds Joshua Tukamuhebwa, expressed his gratitude to his predecessor, describing him as a mentor and inspiration.
“Joshua taught me so much,” he said. “I’m confident I can lead the national team even better.”
The championship will bring together some of the region’s top boxing nations, and Uganda’s contingent will be looking to make a strong statement in Nairobi. The Bombers are scheduled to depart later today.
