Uganda’s women’s table tennis team has continued to impress at the 2025 ITTF-Africa Senior Championships in Tunisia, securing qualification for the 2026 World Team Table Tennis Championships in London and now setting sights on a podium finish.
The trio of Judith Mirembe, Jemimah Nakawala and Parvin Judith Nangonzi powered Uganda past Cameroon 3-1 to top their group at the Salle Multidisciplinaire Rades.
The win followed earlier victories over the Democratic Republic of Congo and South Africa, ensuring a quarterfinal slot and automatic qualification for the centennial ITTF World Championships in London next year.
Uganda’s next test will be a tough quarterfinal against hosts Tunisia at 6pm (EAT), a clash that’s expected to draw plenty of attention.
In other women’s team quarterfinals, Egypt takes on South Africa, Madagascar faces Algeria, and Ghana meets Nigeria in an all-West African tie. All the quarterfinalists have already secured their tickets to London 2026.
While the Ugandan women continue to shine, the men’s team’s campaign came to an early end after a 3-0 loss to DR Congo in the second group stage. The trio of Jonathan Ssenyonga, David Odoi and Joshua Magaya will look to finish strong when they face Tunisia in their final group match at 1pm (EAT).
The Tunisia-hosted ITTF-Africa Senior Championships, which run through the weekend, also feature singles, doubles and mixed doubles categories.
Uganda has already made history in the doubles, where Parvin Nangonzi and Jemimah Nakawala clinched the country’s first table tennis medal in over two decades—a bronze that capped off a resurgence for Team Uganda.
