Uganda Table Tennis Impresses on Global Stage as Sebatindira Shines in Sheffield

Ugandan table tennis continues to rise both in Africa and abroad, with a string of strong performances in Tunisia and the United Kingdom highlighting a busy and successful period for the Uganda Table Tennis Association (UTTA).

At the 2025 ITTF Africa Seniors Championships in Tunisia, Uganda’s women’s team delivered one of their best continental performances yet, bringing home two medals and securing qualification to the prestigious London 2026 World Table Tennis Team Championships.

The trio of Jemimah Nakawala, Parvin Judith Nangonzi, and Judith Mirembe clinched a silver medal in the team event after defeating Nigeria in the semifinals, before falling 0–3 to powerhouse Egypt in the final.

Nakawala and Nangonzi also bagged a bronze in the women’s doubles, adding to Uganda’s growing medal haul on the continent.

UTTA hailed the results as a reflection of the team’s hard work, commitment, and growing confidence against Africa’s elite.

The championship in Tunisia attracted players from 29 nations, including Uganda’s men’s team featuring David Odoi, Joshua Magaya, and Jonathan Ssenyonga, who gained valuable experience at the top level.

Meanwhile, in Sheffield, England, young sensation Joseph Sebatindira stole the spotlight at the 2025 ITTF World Hopes Week and Challenge, topping the boys’ category at the global event for players under 12 years.

The week began with a five-day training camp, followed by two days of intense competition that drew top young talents from countries such as the USA, Italy, Argentina, Canada, Australia, and Nigeria. Uganda’s Patience Anyango also impressed, finishing eighth among 18 girls in her category.
