Former West Ham manager Graham Potter has been appointed as the new head coach of the Sweden national team on a short-term basis.
Potter, 50, takes the job following the dismissal of Jon Dahl Tomasson, with Sweden’s hopes for World Cup qualification now resting solely on the play-offs.
“I am very humbled by the assignment, but also incredibly inspired,” said Potter, whose main goal is to get the team “to deliver at the highest level to take Sweden to the World Cup next summer.”
The appointment comes shortly after Potter was sacked by West Ham in late September following a disappointing run of five losses in six games.
However, he remains highly regarded in Sweden due to his successful spell at Ostersund, where he guided the club from the fourth division to the top flight between 2011 and 2018.
