Olympic champion Joshua Cheptegei continues to make steady progress in his marathon career, setting a new personal best of 2:04:52 to finish 5th at the TCS Amsterdam Marathon on Sunday, October 19, 2025.
Running in just his third career marathon, Cheptegei displayed patience and consistency in a high-quality elite field.
He started strong but dropped off the lead group that featured Toroitich, Getachew, Geay, and Getaneh Molla midway through the race.
As the front pack reshuffled, Cheptegei maintained his rhythm and composure, crossing the line with his fastest time yet over the 42.195-kilometre distance.
The result marks another milestone in Cheptegei’s transition from track to road racing.
After debuting at the Valencia Marathon in 2023, where he clocked 2:08:59 to finish 37th, he improved to 2:05:59 at the Tokyo Marathon in March 2025,l.
Now, with a sub-2:05 mark in Amsterdam, the world 5000m and 10,000m record holder continues to strengthen his credentials as a marathon contender.
