Ssekiganda’s Strike Lifts APR Past Mukura in Gritty League Encounter

Ugandan midfielder Ronald Ssekiganda etched his name onto APR FC’s scoresheet for the first time, and his timing couldn’t have been more crucial.

On a brisk Sunday evening at the Kigali Pele Stadium, Ssekiganda delivered the defining moment in a tense Rwanda Premier League showdown, as his first-half goal propelled APR to a slender 1–0 victory over a disciplined Mukura Victory Sports outfit.

Typically celebrated for his relentless work rate and defensive steel, Ssekiganda turned match-winner after seizing on a rare error from Mukura’s goalkeeper, Nicholas Ssebwato, who fumbled a routine collection. The alert midfielder reacted quickest, steering the loose ball into the net to ignite cheers across the stands.

From then on, APR were made to dig deep. Mukura, marshaled with purpose and resilience, refused to fold easily, forcing the defending champions to defend their lead with trademark discipline until the final whistle confirmed a precious three points.

The Ugandan influence in the fixture was unmistakable, Hakim Kiwanuka and Denis Omedi also featured for APR, complementing Ssekiganda’s industrious display in midfield. But it was the former SC Villa man’s strike that stole the headlines, symbolizing both his growing confidence and APR’s unrelenting pursuit of early-season dominance.

With two wins from their opening two matches, APR maintain a flawless record, albeit with games still in hand. They currently sit sixth on the log with six points, trailing Police FC, who lead the table with twelve from four matches.

APR’s next hurdle comes on Saturday, October 25, 2025, when they clash with Kiyovu Sports, a fixture expected to test their momentum and perhaps provide Ssekiganda another chance to extend his newfound scoring touch.
