Tottenham Hotspur secured a goalless draw against Monaco in the Champions League, but the performance was labelled “dismal” and “unambitious,” with the team relying heavily on the brilliance of goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario and a large measure of good fortune.
Vicario was the undisputed hero for Thomas Frank’s side, producing a string of phenomenal saves, particularly against former Arsenal forward Folarin Balogun and a crucial point-blank block from Jordan Teze.
Manager Frank credited the keeper, noting his “exceptional” saves were a “big part of why we got a hard-fought point.”
Spurs’ attack, by contrast, was anaemic, managing only two shots on target. The lacklustre effort drew loud groans and boos from the travelling supporters at the final whistle, who felt their side settled for the draw.
While the result keeps Spurs unbeaten in the group stage, their upcoming fixtures against FC Copenhagen and holders Paris Saint-Germain will demand a significant improvement.
