Ssekiganda’s Strike Lifts APR Past Mukura in Gritty League Encounter

It has been a week of mixed emotions for Uganda Cranes midfielder Ronald Ssekiganda at his new club APR FC, highlighting both the highs and lows of professional football.

On October 19, the former SC Villa captain announced his arrival in the Rwanda Premier League in spectacular fashion.

Ssekiganda scored the only goal of the game against Mukura Victory Sports, leading APR to a 1-0 victory.

The strike not only marked his first goal for the Rwandan giants but also underlined his ability to make a difference in games.

However, the elation was short-lived. Just a week later, in a goalless draw against Kiyovu, Ssekiganda received his first red card for APR in the 81st minute, a setback that could have disrupted APR’s strong start to the season.

The club has since lodged an appeal, leaving his availability for the upcoming clash against Rutsiro FC uncertain.

Should the appeal succeed, the Cranes midfielder will return to action; if not, he will serve a suspension.

APR have had a promising start to the season, amassing seven points from three matches, including two wins and a draw, and Ssekiganda’s influence will be crucial as they aim to maintain their momentum at the top of the Rwanda Premier League table.

For Ssekiganda personally, the stakes are high. The 28-year-old midfielder has recently lost his place in the Uganda Cranes starting lineup, and consistent performances at APR will be vital as he looks to regain national team selection ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

His ability to combine defensive grit with attacking creativity will be key for both club and country.

Despite the red card, the week has shown that Ssekiganda is capable of impactful performances and resilience – traits that have defined his career and will be crucial if he hopes to continue shining in both Rwandan domestic football and on the continental stage.
