Brentford cruised into the Carabao Cup quarter-finals, dispatching League Two side Grimsby Town with a comprehensive 5-0 victory at Blundell Park.
Despite making nine changes, the Premier League side quickly asserted their dominance, ending the Mariners’ memorable cup run which had previously included a win over Manchester United.
A first-half blitz sealed the result, starting with goals from Mathias Jensen (22′) and Keane Lewis-Potter (26′). Reiss Nelson, making his first start, then made it 3-0 just before the break (43′).
The rout continued in the second half with Fábio Carvalho scoring a penalty (54′), and substitute Nathan Collins heading home the fifth goal (75′).
Manager Keith Andrews praised his side’s depth, saying the attacking play was “outstanding.” Brentford, who have also knocked out Bournemouth and Aston Villa, now await Wednesday’s draw for the last eight, aiming to better their 2020-21 semi-final appearance.
