Former Manchester United star Paul Scholes has reduced his commentary work to prioritize the routine of his 20-year-old autistic son, Aiden.
The 50-year-old midfielder revealed on the Stick to Football podcast that his media schedule is now entirely “built around his day.”
Scholes explained that regular evening commentary duties, such as those for the Europa League, caused Aiden to become “agitated,” as it disrupted his established pattern.
Scholes, who co-parents Aiden with his ex-wife, also opened up about keeping his son’s diagnosis private during his playing days, even admitting that he was once dropped by Sir Alex Ferguson while struggling to handle the situation off the pitch.
His primary concern now is for Aiden’s long-term future: “The big concern now is, because you’re getting a bit older, what happens when you’re not here? That’s the thing that’s now on my mind all the time.”
