Allan Ssewanyana Backs Sports Leaders Joining Politics

Makindye West legislator Allan Ssewanyana has expressed strong support for sports federation leaders venturing into politics, saying their involvement in Parliament will strengthen advocacy for sports development across Uganda.

Ssewanyana believes that leaders with a sports background bring a unique understanding of the challenges faced by athletes and federations, allowing for more informed policymaking and resource allocation.

“The more sports-minded leaders we have in Parliament, the stronger our collective voice becomes in advancing sports development and securing proper funding, ultimately finding solutions to key challenges affecting athletes, especially issues of welfare,” Ssewanyana said.

Currently, FUFA President Moses Magogo and Ssewanyana himself are among the sports figures serving in Parliament.

Boxing Federation President Moses Muhangi has also announced his political ambitions, declaring his intention to contest for a Kampala parliamentary seat in the upcoming elections.

Ssewanyana welcomed the trend, describing it as a positive step toward a new era of leadership and investment in Uganda’s sporting sector.

He noted that the growing presence of sports administrators in politics could lead to more strategic planning and sustainable support for athletes nationwide.
