Thousands of runners filled the streets of Kampala on Sunday in a spirited show of support for education during this year’s NSSF Annual Run.
The event, which attracted both Ugandan and international participants, was flagged off by Patrick Ayota, the Managing Director of the National Social Security Fund (NSSF), at the Kololo Independence Grounds.
Participants competed in two race categories—21 km and 10 km—with the first group setting off promptly at 7:00 am.
About an hour later, the fastest runners began crossing the finish line to cheers from the crowd. The top performers were later decorated with medals in recognition of their efforts.
As the event wound down, organisers announced that over one billion Ugandan shillings had been raised from the 2025 edition.
The funds will go toward improving education infrastructure and learning conditions in ten public schools across Uganda.
According to NSSF, the initiative will focus on renovating classrooms, upgrading sanitation facilities, and promoting digital literacy among students.
