Wolverhampton Wanderers are targeting former club figures Rob Edwards and Gary O’Neil as the leading candidates to replace Vitor Pereira, who was sacked on Sunday (November 2, 2025) after the team’s disastrous 10-match winless start to the Premier League season.
Edwards, currently at Middlesbrough, is considered a strong contender with support from the Wolves board, having made over 100 appearances for the club as a player.
However, his current employment poses an obstacle, and no formal contact has been made with Middlesbrough.
O’Neil, who was surprisingly sacked by Wolves in December last year, is also in the running and is out of work, meaning his appointment would not require compensation.
Pereira’s departure followed a 3-0 defeat by Fulham, leaving Wolves bottom of the table with two points.
The Portuguese manager, who signed a new contract in September, released a statement thanking the club and wishing them “all the best for the rest of the season.”
Michael Carrick is also reported to be under consideration for the vacant post.
