Manchester City star Erling Haaland has played down comparisons to football legends Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, insisting he is “far off” their records and stating “nobody” will ever match their goalscoring feats.
The 25-year-old striker, who has scored 327 career goals, acknowledged the massive gap separating him from Messi (892 goals) and Ronaldo (952 goals).
Despite being on course to surpass his own record-breaking 56-goal season from 2022-23 and rapidly approaching the fastest time to 100 Premier League goals, Haaland stressed that breaking records is “the last thing on my mind.”
He stated his focus is solely on helping City win games.
Haaland also revealed that his primary career ambition is not personal accolades but achieving success with his national team.
“My goal is to take Norway to a World Cup and Euros,” he affirmed. He added an ominous warning that he is “definitely” continuing to improve as a striker.
