Coach Tolbert Onyango has selected a 12-man squad to represent Uganda at the HSBC Rugby Challenger series in Montevideo. The team, led by captain Ian Muyani, includes players like Adrian Kasito, Norbert Okenyi, and Aaron Ofoyirwoth. The series will take place from March 8th to 10th, followed by participation in the All Africa Games in Ghana.
Notably, the squad see the return of star player Phillip Wokorach, who returns after last featuring in the Sevens series in Zimbabwe.
Speaking to NBS Sport, Isaac Massa expressed determination to improve “we will fight and do better than we did in Dubai and make to a better this time”.
Puis Ogena echoed this sentiment, aiming for knockout qualification through collective effort. “This time we shall try and make it to the knockouts and use our collective efforts”
The Ugandan men’s team competes in Pool C against Uruguay, Germany, and Papua New Guinea.
Unfortunately, players like Roy Kizito, Shimwa Davis, and William Nkore didn’t make the cut. However, Coach Tolbert assures they will continue training and hopes they can join the team in Accra, Ghana, for the All Africa Games.
