FIFA has announced the creation of a new global distinction, the “FIFA Peace Prize, Football Unites the World”, an annual award that will recognise individuals whose exceptional actions have fostered peace, unity, and understanding across the world through the power of football.
The initiative reflects FIFA’s enduring belief that football can serve as a force for good, a sport capable of transcending borders, bridging divides, and promoting harmony among communities worldwide.
The inaugural FIFA Peace Prize will be presented by FIFA President Gianni Infantino on Friday, 5 December 2025, during the Final Draw for the FIFA World Cup 26 in Washington DC, USA.
Celebrating Football’s Power to Unite
The “FIFA Peace Prize, Football Unites the World” will honour those who, through unwavering dedication and courageous action, have used football as a platform to promote peace and reconciliation.
It represents more than a trophy, it is a symbol of hope, compassion, and the belief that sport can build bridges where politics and conflict often fail.
The award will be presented on behalf of football fans around the globe, a community of over five billion people who live the spirit of FIFA’s motto, “Football Unites the World.”
Every day, millions of girls and boys, women and men play, watch, and celebrate football, finding joy and belonging in the world’s most popular game.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino: “Football Stands for Peace”
Speaking on the launch of the new initiative, FIFA President Gianni Infantino highlighted the importance of recognising those who champion peace in today’s divided world.
“In an increasingly unsettled and divided world, it’s fundamental to recognise the outstanding contribution of those who work hard to end conflicts and bring people together in a spirit of peace,” said Infantino.
“Football stands for peace, and on behalf of the entire global football community, the FIFA Peace Prize, Football Unites the World will honour the enormous efforts of those individuals who unite people, bringing hope for future generations.”
A Legacy of Unity Through Football
The FIFA Peace Prize becomes the latest initiative under FIFA’s Football Unites the World campaign, an ongoing global movement launched by the organisation to promote solidarity, equality, and inclusion through the sport.
By honouring those who embody these principles, FIFA aims to inspire future generations to use football not just as a game, but as a universal language for peace.
The first FIFA Peace Prize will be awarded on 5 December 2025, during the Final Draw for the FIFA World Cup 26 in Washington DC.
