Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali has declared he is happy at St James’ Park, but is approaching his long-term commitment on a year-by-year basis.
The 25-year-old Italy international, who arrived from AC Milan in July 2023 for £55 million, recently extended his contract an additional year (with an option to 2030) while serving a 10-month betting ban.
Following the Magpies’ Champions League win on Wednesday, Tonali addressed his future: “I don’t want to say I want to stay here 10 years and in two years, three years, four years [or] five years I will go… but now I’m happy here. I don’t think anything about another team.”
He acknowledged the “tough” summer transfer controversy involving striker Alexander Isak’s £125m move to Liverpool, noting, “If you have an option for your life, for another team you need to think about everything.”
