Uganda Cranes striker John Paul Dembe scored for his side, but it wasn’t enough to rescue BK Hacken from defeat as they lost 2-1 to RC Strasbourg in the UEFA Conference League at Gamla Ullevi.
Strasbourg’s early control paid off midway through the first half when Martial Godo’s clever cross found Julio Enciso, who steered a precise header into the corner.
The visitors doubled their lead just before the hour mark, again through Godo, who reacted quickest to finish from close range after a scramble in the box.
Dembe, however, gave the Swedish side hope almost immediately.
The Ugandan forward showed great instinct to pounce on a defensive lapse by Mike Penders, beating the keeper to the loose ball and slotting into an empty net.
Despite late pressure, including a curling effort from Mikkel Rygaard that flew just over, Hacken couldn’t find the equaliser.
The result ended their seven-game unbeaten run and left them still searching for a first win in the group stage.
