Vipers SC return to St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende for their first home fixture of the 2025/26 Uganda Premier League campaign, and the script could not be any juicier—they welcome old foes KCCA FC under the Friday night lights in what promises to be a blockbuster clash.
The Venoms come into the contest having played just one league game so far, a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Entebbe UPPC FC at Bugonga, where midfielder Abdul Karim Watambala sealed the points with a composed finish.
KCCA, on the other hand, arrive at Kitende with early-season momentum, sitting comfortably at the summit with 11 points from five matches, four more outings than Vipers. Their latest performance was a routine win over newcomers Calvary FC at Lugogo, a result that reaffirmed their strong start.
Last season’s encounters served up their fair share of drama. The Kitende meeting ended 1-1 after Milton Karisa’s opener was canceled out by Ashraf Mugume’s late equaliser. However, Vipers asserted their authority in the reverse fixture at Lugogo, cruising to a 2-0 victory courtesy of goals from Yunus Sentamu and Allan Okello.
The rivalry remains one of the most balanced and fiercely contested in Ugandan football. In league play, Vipers narrowly lead the head-to-head with 16 wins against KCCA’s 14, alongside nine draws.
The Venoms also enjoyed bragging rights last season by defeating the Kasasiro Boys in the Uganda Cup final, where goals from Sentamu and defensive powerhouse Livingstone Mulondo sealed the silverware.
LAST FIVE MEETINGS
KCCA FC 0–2 Vipers SC
Vipers SC 1–1 KCCA FC
Vipers SC 0–1 KCCA FC
KCCA FC 3–1 Vipers SC
Vipers SC 1–0 KCCA FC
Vipers’ first-ever victory over KCCA dates back to September 28, 2008, when Yudah Mugalu’s brace and a Caesar Okhuti strike earned a commanding 3-1 win at the iconic Nakivubo Stadium after six unsuccessful attempts.
With history, pride and early-season momentum all on the line, Friday’s showdown at Kitende is shaping up to be a pulsating chapter in this storied rivalry.
