Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola will take charge of his 1,000th career match on Sunday when his side hosts fierce rivals Liverpool in the Premier League.
The 54-year-old Spaniard expressed astonishment at his monumental record.
Since beginning his managerial career in 2007, Guardiola has amassed 715 victories, 12 top-flight titles, and three Champions League crowns. He told BBC Sport: “The numbers are insane, I’m sorry to tell you.”
Guardiola, who has led City to historic achievements like a 100-point season and four successive league titles, joked about his standing in the sport, saying those who call him the greatest manager ever are “completely right!”
He credited his success to being at elite clubs and his deep dedication to the game.
The milestone fixture against Liverpool is fitting, as Guardiola called them his “biggest rival” in England.
He praised the rivalry for pushing both clubs to be better and expressed how much he missed facing former Liverpool boss, Jurgen Klopp.
