Novak Djokovic secured his 101st career title at the Hellenic Championships on Saturday, but the victory came at a heavy cost, forcing him to withdraw from the ATP Finals in Turin due to an “ongoing” shoulder injury.
The 38-year-old Serb defeated Italy’s Lorenzo Musetti 4-6, 6-3, 7-5 in a gruelling three-hour final.
“I’m sad to share that I need to withdraw due to an ongoing injury,” Djokovic wrote on social media, apologizing to fans.
Djokovic’s withdrawal means that Lorenzo Musetti will now take his place in the season-ending tournament, which begins on November 9th.
In other news, Great Britain’s Cameron Norrie lost the Moselle Open final in France, falling to American teenager Learner Tien 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (8-6).
Norrie let a 5-1 tie-break lead slip, allowing the 19-year-old Tien to claim his first career title.
