For the very first time in the history of Ugandan football, the nation has celebrated a win at a FIFA World Cup tournament.
When the Uganda Cubs faced Canada last week, it marked the first appearance by any Ugandan football team at a World Cup.
That game produced a piece of history when James Bogere scored Uganda’s first-ever World Cup goal, although the Cubs eventually fell 2–1.
In their second match, the Cubs continued to make strides, earning Uganda’s first World Cup point with a hard-fought 1–1 draw against Chile.
Now, the Cubs have reached yet another milestone.
On a historic evening, James Bogere once again rose to the occasion, scoring the decisive goal in the 18th minute to seal a 1–0 victory over former champions France.
This win could not have come at a more crucial moment.
Facing elimination, the Cubs showed resilience and belief to secure the victory that keeps their World Cup journey alive.
Coach Brian Ssenyondo’s side finished the group stage with four points in Group K, the same points as anyone else in the group.
Not only marking an incredible achievement for Ugandan football but also placing them among the best third-placed teams and through to the Round of 32.
