Uganda Cup Round Three Results:
• Kigezi Queens 00-54 Ewes
• Avengers 24-05 She Wolves
• Mbale Eagles 00-29 Nile Rapids
Before kickoff at Busambaga Rugby Grounds in Entebbe, Avengers and She Wolves were tied on six points apiece in Pool B. Still, the latter were ahead on the table by virtue of a superior points difference (+20). A draw would have worked for She Wolves while Avengers needed nothing short of a victory.
Similarly, before kickoff at Busamaga Rugby Grounds in Mbale, Nile Rapids and Mbale Eagles were separated by just one point in Pool A. The former needed a draw or better, while the latter had to win without conceding a bonus point.
That’s how close the final pool round in the women’s 2025 Uganda Cup was. Four teams are battling for second place in their respective pools.
The matches lived up to the billing. Most especially at Busambaga whose action was broadcast live on NBS Sport.
Avengers and She Wolves were scoreless until the last play of the first half when Sarah Kirabo crashed over and Maimuna Nassozi converted to make it 07-00 at the break.
In the second half, both teams played with the handbrake off. Kirabo got her brace from a charge down (converted successfully by Maimuna) four minutes in. Then nearly ten minutes later, Mary Makhonge pulled one back for the She Wolves to make it 14-05.
The Avengers asserted their dominance in the final quarter of the match. Nassozi and Peace Nemira added their names to the try scorers’ list for a 24-05 bonus point victory.
Mary Makhonge was named the Player of the Match.
Meanwhile, in Mbale, the visitors were victorious by twenty-nine points and sealed second place in their pool.
Thus, the semifinal fixtures, to be played on November 29, have been confirmed. Panthers will take on Avengers while Nile Rapids’ title defence will continue against Ewes.
Since both the Premier League and National 7s Series champions did not take part in the Uganda Cup, there will be a different winner for every Uganda Rugby trophy this year.
