Moses Kipsiro has called on the Uganda Athletics Federation to make Mbale Golf Course the regular venue for the National Cross Country Championships after the course staged its first edition on Saturday and delivered what he described as the perfect blend of terrain and weather for elite distance running.
The former world champion said the hilly layout pushed athletes in the same way Kapchorwa does, giving runners a genuine endurance test on a surface that stayed firm under the morning breeze.
The venue drew a large field, with hundreds competing for qualification points ahead of the World Cross Country Championships set for January ten in Tallahassee, Florida.
The course earned praise from the senior athletes who dominated the program. Dan Kibet, winner of the men’s ten kilometre race, said the venue felt like an international grade setup.
He said the rolling climbs and fast drops made the race honest from the gun and gave athletes a clear picture of their form heading into the new season.
