Austria secured a place in the World Cup finals for the first time since 1998 after drawing 1-1 with Bosnia-Herzegovina in Vienna on Tuesday night.
Bosnia-Herzegovina took the lead in the 12th minute through Haris Tabaković, putting pressure on Ralf Rangnick’s side.
However, Austria’s crucial equaliser came in the 77th minute, as Michael Gregoritsch finished a rebound after a shot hit the crossbar.
The draw was enough to see Austria top Group H with 19 points, guaranteeing their spot in the finals hosted by Canada, Mexico, and the United States. Bosnia-Herzegovina, finishing two points behind, now head to the play-offs.
Manager Ralf Rangnick, who previously guided the team to the knockout stages of Euro 2024, has now ended Austria’s run of missing six consecutive World Cups.
