The Mwiri League has confirmed its return for Season Six, introducing a new venue and an expanded matchday experience as preparations wrap up for kickoff this Saturday, November 22.
The alumni competition for Busoga College Mwiri will now take place at the International University of East Africa in Kansanga after the league was officially launched at the same venue on Tuesday.
League Chairman Shadrack Olinga said the organisers are ready for another strong campaign and highlighted the support from sponsors in shaping the competition’s growth. He urged the Mwiri Old Boys community to turn out in full strength as the new season gets underway.
This year’s edition features 22 teams and adopts a Swiss style format. All teams will play a rotating cast of opponents across the season with minimal repeats and a single league table. The top sides will advance to the knockout playoffs that will decide the champions.
Guinness, the lead sponsor and a long time supporter of Old Boys leagues, reaffirmed its backing. Project Manager Mercy Atwongyeire said the brand aims to enhance the matchday atmosphere and deepen alumni engagement.
Matchday One will open with competitive fixtures and a strong entertainment lineup led by MC Kats. Fans will also have access to board games and a range of partner services.
NIRA will offer national ID renewal while Marie Stopes will run a free medical camp. The league’s other partners include NRG Radio, MTN, SafeBoda, Kenbright, Jonakee Holdings, and Across the Nile Resort and Adventures.
Suici FC head into the new campaign as defending champions after lifting the main shield in May.
