The Association of Uganda University Sports has opened the 2025 University Games at Uganda Christian University in Mukono, setting the build up toward one of the biggest events on the tertiary sports calendar.
The launch, led by AUUS President George Wagoogo alongside university leaders and representatives from participating institutions, marked a firm shift into the last phase of planning.
Wagoogo confirmed that thirty universities have registered and reminded teams to stick to international eligibility rules.
He stressed the need to follow FISU standards that bar players above twenty five years from taking part, a guideline AUUS says will be enforced across all disciplines.
UCU Deputy Vice Chancellor Prof. John Kitayimbwa said hosting the Games fits into the university’s long term mission and will bring benefits to both the campus and the wider Mukono community.
His remarks came as officials toured upgraded facilities that will stage eighteen disciplines split across indoor and outdoor venues. Some events are lined up for late hours thanks to new lighting and improved infrastructure.
UCU Head of Sports Sam Lukaire said preparations are ahead of previous editions and that the university is set to host athletes, officials, and supporters.
With a few weeks left, momentum is building around Mukono as the hosts move to wrap up final touches for a crowded and lively festival of student sport.
