Victoria Pearls Fall Short in Namibia Run Chase

Uganda’s Victoria Pearls’ batting woes have continued into yet another tournament, yet another match.

During the ICC Women’s Emerging Nations Trophy opener, the Victoria Pearls restricted Scotland to a chaseable 115 in the first innings but fell short by 15 runs in the second.

In the second match at the same venue the following day, this time against fellow Africans Namibia, the Victoria Pearls won the toss and elected to bowl.

And what an innings that was! Namibia only managed to knock off 83 runs in their allotted overs, which should have been an easy chase.

While the bowling was red hot, the batting suffered a cold start and never recovered.

Uganda only hit 13 runs in the power play with Esther Iloku dismissed for just four.

Disaster struck in the thirteenth over when Immaculate Nakisuuyi (17 off 27) and Janet Mbabazi (15 off 37) were dismissed with Uganda at 49 runs; Namibia was still well within range. The two were the only batters to enter double figures.

Then things went from bad to worse in the fifteenth as Rita Musamali (0 off 2) and Stephanie Nampiina (6 off 11) matched back to the sheds with Uganda at 58/5.

From then on, it was a slow death as the batting order failed to hit the required run per ball; Uganda eventually settled for a total of 71 runs.
