MCC Foundation in Uganda For Cricket Development Activities

The Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) Foundation, renowned for its cricket-based philanthropy, is in Uganda to conduct training sessions and supervise various cricket-based projects. Led by Dr Sarah Fane OBE, the Foundation’s CEO, the team are in Uganda following their visit to Rwanda.

Speaking on the Foundation’s visit to UgandaIn Uganda, Grace Mutyagaba, the Development Officer of Northern Hub emphasized the significance of using sport, particularly cricket, as a catalyst for positive transformation, especially in areas facing conflict or poverty.

“The Foundation’s endeavours are multifaceted, aiming to empower young talents, unite communities, and promote physical and mental well-being through the sport,” she said.

Their current stop in Gulu saw the MCC Foundation team visiting several schools, including Gulu Prison Primary School, Gulu Public Primary School, Baptist Primary School, and St Joseph’s College Layibi. 

Angus Berry, Head of Operations at MCC, highlighted the Foundation’s commitment to nurturing cricket talent globally. 

“Over the past 18 months, the MCC Foundation has been instrumental in funding cricket development in Gulu and Masindi, providing coaching, equipment, and support to young enthusiasts,” he said. 

Sarah Fane, CEO of MCC Foundation, reiterated the organization’s dedication to transforming lives through cricket, not only in Uganda but also across the globe. 

“With projects spanning from the UK to countries like Lebanon, Nepal, Rwanda, and Kenya, the Foundation remains steadfast in its mission to offer young people opportunities for a better life through the sport they love,” she said.

The MCC Foundation is expected to be in Gulu for a few more days before they move to Jinja to continue their projects.
