In the highly anticipated face-off between two of football’s top teenage talents, Chelsea’s Estevao Willian decisively outshone Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal as the Blues secured a dominant 3-0 Champions League victory.
Estevao, 18, became only the third teenager (after Mbappé and Haaland) to score in each of his first three Champions League starts, capping his brilliant performance with a spectacular goal.
Collecting a pass from Reece James, he cut inside, beat Alejandro Balde, and unleashed a powerful shot into the roof of the net.
The goal prompted former Chelsea player Pat Nevin to urge fans to “Start believing the hype,” praising the Brazilian’s “effortless” style.
In contrast, Lamine Yamal struggled, failing to escape the attention of Chelsea left-back Marc Cucurella, who delivered a “brilliant” defensive display that experts compared to a prime Ashley Cole performance.
Yamal was substituted in the 80th minute to jeers, while Estevao departed shortly after to a standing ovation.
Despite the excitement, Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca cautioned against comparing the young stars to Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, calling such comparisons “too much pressure.”
Estevao himself called the night “definitely the best moment of my career so far.”
