Go Ahead Eagles have fined forward Victor Edvardsen €500 after he was caught on camera mocking VfB Stuttgart midfielder Angelo Stiller during Thursday’s 4-0 UEFA Europa League loss.
The Swedish striker made two offensive gestures targeting Stiller, who was born with a cleft lip.
Initially, Edvardsen refused to apologize, claiming “emotions are part of football.”
However, the club quickly intervened. The forward later issued a statement saying he had visited the Stuttgart locker room to apologize, acknowledging his “role-model responsibility.”
The incident drew harsh criticism from analysts, including former player Wesley Sneijder, who called the behavior unacceptable.
While team captain Mats Deijl insisted his teammate must apologize, Go Ahead Eagles coach Melvin Boel refused to comment when shown footage after the match.
