West Ham midfielder Lucas Paqueta has been formally warned by the Football Association (FA) for his conduct after being sent off against Liverpool on Sunday, but he will avoid an extended ban.
Paqueta, 28, received two quick yellow cards for dissent during the 2-0 home defeat, culminating in him sarcastically applauding referee Darren England.
The FA confirmed it issued a “warning and reminder of his responsibilities” but will take “no further action” beyond the mandatory one-match suspension for the red card.
Paqueta will therefore miss West Ham’s match against Manchester United on Thursday.
The incident follows a turbulent period for the Brazilian, who suggested his actions were a “reflection of everything I have had to endure,” referencing the FA’s recent spot-fixing investigation.
Although he was cleared of the severe charges (which carried a potential lifetime ban) in July, manager Nuno Espirito Santo acknowledged the ordeal is still affecting the player.
