President Emmerson Mnangagwa has personally donated $400,000 to the Zimbabwe Warriors for their upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) campaign in Morocco.
Sports Minister Anselem Sanyatwe announced this at the team’s send-off dinner.
The funds, confirmed to be from the President’s personal pocket and not the national budget, are specifically earmarked for the team’s welfare.
Minister Sanyatwe delivered a strong message to the players, stating, “basing from my background as a military general, failure is not an option.”
He did not, however, disclose the amount the government is contributing through the national budget.
The Warriors, hoping to progress to the knockout stages for the first time, will face a tough group against Egypt, South Africa, and Angola, kicking off their tournament against Egypt on December 22.
