Red Bull motorsport adviser Helmut Marko will leave the team at the end of the 2025 season after two decades, ending an era that delivered six constructors’ and eight drivers’ titles.
The 82-year-old, a key ally of the late Dietrich Mateschitz, was instrumental in developing champions Sebastian Vettel and Max Verstappen.
Marko stated the decision came because “now is the right moment for me personally to end this very long, intense, and successful chapter,” following the disappointment of narrowly missing the world championship this season.
Red Bull CEO Oliver Mintzlaff confirmed Marko approached him with the wish to step down, marking “the end of an extraordinary era.”
Sources close to the team suggest Marko’s decision was influenced by a perceived loss of control after leadership changes that followed former team principal Christian Horner’s sacking in July.
This was recently highlighted by Marko signing driver Alex Dunne against Mintzlaff’s wishes, leading to Dunne being paid off. Marko also faced controversy in 2023 for remarks made about driver Sergio Perez’s ethnicity.
