Manchester United is scrambling to gain late clearance for key players Bryan Mbeumo, Amad Diallo, and Noussair Mazraoui to feature in Monday’s Premier League clash with Bournemouth before they leave for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Coach Ruben Amorim admitted on Friday he is unsure if the players will be available, stating the club is “still in conversations with the national teams.”
Mbeumo, United’s leading scorer with seven goals, is due to link up with Cameroon.
FIFA recently reduced the mandatory release period, meaning players must be released from Monday, December 15, ahead of the AFCON kickoff on December 21.
Amorim confirmed United is waiting until the “last moment” for a definitive answer, acknowledging the disruption that is also affecting rivals like Liverpool (Salah) and Manchester City (Marmoush).
