Victoria Pearls Eyeing Gold at All Africa Games in Ghana

Cricket is set to debut at the All Africa Games, happening in Accra, Ghana. With the women’s edition of the tournament scheduled from March 7th to 13th, the Victoria Pearls are gearing up to clinch the coveted gold medal.

The tournament will feature eight teams divided into two groups, with Uganda placed in Group B alongside Zimbabwe, Rwanda, and Kenya. The top two teams from each group will advance to the semifinals, with the ultimate showdown for the gold medal and a battle for the bronze in the 3rd/4th place final.

The tournament holds T20i status, offering ranking points to participating teams. Ranked 18th globally, Uganda aims to make significant strides by challenging higher-ranked opponents such as South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia.

Prior to the tournament, the Victoria Pearls underwent an intensive 12-day training camp in India, where they competed in five T20 matches against select sides from India and Zimbabwe. The team secured victories in three out of the five matches.

Speaking on the team’s readiness, Assistant Coach Deus Muhumuza emphasized the squad’s commitment to facing the challenge head-on and delivering their best performances.

The Victoria Pearls will kick off their quest for gold against arch-rivals Kenya, followed by matches against Zimbabwe and Rwanda.
