Uganda is hosting the 2025 East and Central Africa Handball Club Championship, with the tournament running from December 28 to January 1, 2026, bringing regional club handball back into focus.
The championship has drawn 12 leading clubs from four countries Rwanda, Kenya, Burundi and hosts Uganda all competing for regional honours and qualification momentum ahead of continental assignments. Matches are being played across selected venues in Kampala, with organisers expecting strong local support throughout the five day competition.
The tournament had initially been scheduled for November 2025 but was moved to late December to allow for the International Handball Federation elections. The adjustment extended preparation time for clubs and heightened anticipation across the region.
Uganda enters the competition with added attention on the women’s champions, who are the defending title holders. Playing at home, the Ugandan women’s side is aiming to retain the trophy and secure back to back titles, drawing confidence from their previous success and familiar conditions.
With competition already underway, the championship is expected to provide a clear measure of club strength in the region as teams push for silverware before the close of the year.
