Put Acknowledges Nigeria Threat But Insists Anything is Possible

Uganda Cranes head coach Paul Joseph Put says his side are fully aware of the scale of the task against Nigeria but insists his players will give everything to keep their AFCON 2025 hopes alive.

Uganda face Nigeria in their final Group C match, knowing only a positive result will be enough to remain in contention. Nigeria arrive with maximum points from their opening two matches and the confidence of a team that finished runners up at the last Africa Cup of Nations.

Speaking at the pre match press conference, Put acknowledged Nigeria’s quality while stressing belief and effort from his squad.

“We know we are facing a very good team, who was the finalist in the last AFCON edition. Also performed very well, because they have the maximum of their points. The players are will give their best for tomorrow’s game. It’s going to be hard, it’s going to be difficult, but in football, everything is possible.”

The fixture carries added historical significance. The only previous AFCON meeting between the two sides came in the 1978 semi finals, when Uganda won 2 1 on their way to the final.

Overall, Uganda and Nigeria have met eight times across all competitions, with Uganda recording four wins, Nigeria two, and two draws.
