Cricket Uganda Chairman Calls 2025 a Year of Progress and Hard Lessons

Cricket Uganda chairman Jackson Kavuma says the organisation is positioning itself for a stronger and more stable future in 2026, with renewed focus on governance reform, national team recovery, grassroots growth, and commercial investment.

“Great lessons have been learned, and we look forward to a strong 2026 for all our national teams,” Kavuma said as he outlined expectations for the coming year.

Central to those plans is a newly developed five-year strategic plan, created in 2025 with input from stakeholders across the game.

Kavuma said the roadmap will guide development in governance, high performance, grassroots expansion, and financial sustainability once it is formally shared with the cricket fraternity.

“This roadmap provides clear direction for growth, governance, high performance, grassroots development, and commercial sustainability, and will guide our collective efforts as we build a stronger and more resilient future for cricket in Uganda,” he said.

Kavuma also emphasised the importance of expanding cricket beyond traditional centres, citing national schools championships hosted in Gulu City and Fort Portal City as examples of renewed regional engagement. He credited volunteers and development officers for sustaining momentum at community level.

On the commercial front, Kavuma expressed optimism about attracting private investment into Ugandan cricket, noting growing interest from potential partners. “Over the course of the year, Cricket Uganda has worked to attract private investment into our game and the leagues with the aim of strengthening competitiveness,” he said.

Leadership stability also features in the 2026 outlook, with Kavuma reaffirming the board’s decision to extend Evelyn Kabongerwa’s tenure as Acting CEO. He described the move as a statement of confidence and a step toward inclusive and progressive governance.

“This historic decision reflects our shared commitment to progressive governance, inclusion, and excellence,” Kavuma said.

Looking ahead, Kavuma thanked Cricket Uganda’s partners and supporters for their continued backing and expressed confidence that the collective effort across administration, players, and stakeholders will translate into tangible gains in the year ahead.

“I look forward to working with you all to make 2026 a truly vintage year for our special game,” he said.
